Note to a Broken Heart

Note to a Broken Heart

Thank him for giving us something to use.
We have all we need to resurrect our muse.
This torment may deprive us from rest,
But ironically makes our poetry best.
He finally gave us something worthwhile.
Let’s thank him for going the extra mile.

Slipping

Slipping

The wind cries its immortal sighs.
It taunts my aching soul.
The wind cries its immortal sighs.
Your screaming takes its toll.

A restful sleep beckons me.
Your image haunts my dreams.
A restful sleep beckons me.
Nothing is as it seems.

This terrible lie is discovered.
I don’t know how to move.
This terrible lie is discovered.
I’ve nothing left to prove.

I cannot let you in again.
You tell me that you’re dying.
I’ve just begun to live, and then
You tell me that you’re dying.

I’m begging you to let me go.
I've begun to waste away.
You’re not here to help me, so
I've begun to waste away.

Now the dream is over.
I’ve lost my dearest friend.
Now the dream is over.
It all comes to an end.

Logic

Logic

If I had it within my possession to give,
I might consider letting this hope live.
But it seems you have already taken away
Everything that’s worth giving if I were to stay.
So don’t curse my name if you’re empty handed,
For I am the one that is broken and stranded.

Broken

Broken

I am empty.
I am cold.
I am wounded.
I’m alone.

I have feared.
I have trusted.
I have loved.
I have lost.

What is left from love’s last run,
But a broken heart and a loss of hope?

My mind can see the purpose
Of loving and losing you.
If my heart could embrace it,
I might make it through.

While I gather up the pieces
To mend my injured spirit,
At least give me the peace of sanity
To do it alone.

Reason For Being

Reason For Being

There is only one voice that soothes my aching heart.
There is only one laugh that brings me pure joy.
There are only those tear filled eyes to bring me to my knees.
There is only one heart that sustains life in me.
All these things encompassed in the essence of one spirit,
Inspires the true love that feeds my soul.
This eternal bond is made possible by only one miracle.
That miracle is you.

The Moon

The Moon

I sang a song to the moon tonight,
And made like it was you.
I fell in love with the moon tonight,
Because I knew you saw it too.

The moon held me close tonight,
Closer to you.
The moon was bright and full tonight,
Just like my heart with love for you.

I blew a kiss to the moon tonight,
And watched it fly with grace.
I said goodnight to the moon tonight,
As a tear ran down my face.

Poetry

What are lovely words put on paper, when thoughts and feelings bring so much more color to our lives? Emotions and dreams are so vibrant, and bring so much energy to us. These poetic attempts we have to illustrate our perception are but black and white symbols of truth. We experience differently, and when we do experience we are filled with life. There is born a longing to share or to explain. With the skeletal efforts to express ourselves, we may only be able to let others grasp a whisper of understanding. For we all feel, smell, see, hear, love, hate differently. It is because we do all these things and with such magnitude, that we must find an outlet before becoming overwhelmed. There will be absolute confusion to those with no similar experience and still misunderstanding to others of some degree. But if those who listen know acceptance and have a willingness to accept us for being an individual, comprehension will blossom more abundantly. Thus we are able to share the beauty of the poetry of living.

To Watch You Sleep

To Watch You Sleep

In the still, frozen air,
In the dead of winter,
A loving heat protects me.

In silence of night,
In the whisper of skin against sheet,
Our love plays a masterpiece.

In the tickle of your breath,
In the steady beat of your heart,
I am comforted by your rest.

In a world filled with chaos,
In a search for answers and solutions,
Your love gives me hope.

Love Is Blind

Love Is Blind

I see your love in every sunset.

I see your laugh in every twinkling star.

I see soft wisps of your hair in every willow branch that sways in a breeze.

I see your smile in every soft colored petal in bloom.

In every mountain that stands boldly against the sky, I see your courage.

In every cloud that floats above me, I see your gentle sighs.

In every crashing wave, I see you strength of will.

In every stance I take to view these things, I can see only you.

A Solitary Moment in Utopia

A Solitary Moment in Utopia

My spirit is replenished with the moist fragrance of every dew caressed leaf and petal.
My skin has made love with the rays of the sun.
The sounds of living Earth resonate with my soul.
My eyes observe every incredible detail of my surroundings.
The graceful beauty of life I find here, reminds me of you.

Hostage

Hostage

There is too much passion
In this place that keeps me.

There is too much familiar
In my home.

And I leave to find
No more reason to hide.

And I miss, all too much,
My hiding places.

While it instills such rage,
It’s corners hold my dreams.

I have confessed all that was in me
To its shadows.

Knowing all too well,
It holds me here, this place.

To escape,
Never means to be free.

Waiting For Destiny

Waiting for Destiny

A young girl
Spirals through the fields.

Her heart leaps
To peek over the mountains.

She floats through the valleys
To the concrete jungle.

Smiling at its promise,
She returns to her forest,

And confides in the stars
Her dreams of that promise fulfilled.

The Art of Living

The Art of Living

Where did you come from,
And where will you go?
With so many questions,
How can you know?

We trudge and we travel.
Onward, we fly!
There’s no turning back, now.
Don’t even try.

We live and we learn.
We’ll feel sadness and joy.
Following your heart
Is a major ploy.

What makes you tick?
Who will you inspire?
Who in this world
Will set your passions on fire?

We don’t know why.
We don’t know when.
We don’t have the answers
As imperfect men.

One day we’ll get there
And when we arrive,
We’ll yell and be thankful
To just be alive!

A King's Fall

A King’s Fall

Oh the sermons he did preach
As clear as water on the beach.

Down the sidewalk he would creep
With his promises to keep.

Oh the speeches he would tell,
For the mission he wouldn’t fail.

Oh the marches he would lead,
So honest to his creed.

Before he changed the law,
The great King had to fall.

The Path I've Chosen

The Path I’ve Chosen

There, the light will shine
And night will not bring fear;
Not one outside expectation,
Just my voice to hear.

There will be new faces,
A different life design,
No set routine or places,
A world that is all mine.

There is a new beginning;
Always a lesson to learn.
Forever I shall sing my song
For only happiness to earn.

Let me spread my wings
And soar across the sky.
Though you’ll question my success,
You have to let me try.

Our Town

Our Town

In this town, you will see
How life should really be;

Where neighbor will greet neighbor
And ask a friendly favor.

A gentleman tips his hat,
As an old woman feeds her cat.

A young girl will cross the street
For her mother there to meet.

And the boy will make a wish
Just to catch a fish.

Yes, in this town you’re sure to see
How life should really be.

The Moment

The Moment

What is it I see
Behind your eyes
That stills your voice
And fills your sigh?

What dream is it
That wins your heart,
So you hesitate
Each time we part?

What is it I find
There in your smile,
That makes the wait
So worth while?

What is it you treasure?
Oh, can it be,
At the end of your gaze,
You would find me?

The Reason

The Reason

You ask me why I love.
You ask me why I dream.
You ask me why I hope.
There is only one reason why.

One voice holds the thread of my existence.
One gaze holds my passions unfurled.
One touch fills my soul with completion.
One love is my reason for being.

This man so humble and loving,
Gave, to me, his life.
Trusting and gentle,
He sees all that I can be.

This bond between us
Grows stronger each moment.
Our destinies entwined,
We are now and forever one.

Freedom and Safety

You walk in, and the air is cool and crisp. Everything is silent. The only sound you hear is your own footsteps padding down the carpeted aisles. The seats are empty. They look soft and inviting, but you don’t sit down. You walk down, front row and center, looking only at a bare stage. Only the house lights are on. You close your eyes for a moment to deeply inhale this enchanting atmosphere. Then, you make your way up to stand on the stage, down stage center. You look out at the empty house. There is only you. Within a moment, your arms are spread out and you spin in circles. You can do anything. You stop and smile as you catch your breath. Then you lie down, center stage. All you see are the stage lights staring down at you. They won’t shine, but they see you. You see them too. You smile at each other. The house lights dim and the spot is on you. The warmth of that light makes you feel like you’re floating. Your arms are again stretched out to your sides like you could fly. Here, in this place, anyone can be who they want. They can do anything. Now, there is only you. You have no memory of who you were before you were here. There is no thought of after. You are here in the middle of this magical world. You are lost in time. Untouchable. All is clear. The only reality is what you make. The possibilities are endless. Which one will you choose?

Home

Home

My home is filled with dancing light.
It's warmth is carried in an embrace.
It's language is poetry,
Filled with music.

My home is suspended in time,
And spans across the world.
I find my home in many places:
A drainage tunnel, a carousel,
A computer screen, a park,
Or any chosen hotel.

My home is filled with love and hope.
It means the world to me.
There, with my family, lives a bond
Full of strength and possibility.

Each person brings a different light.
They are found along the way
In different parts of life.

I cannot truly tell you all there is to know,
So that you could believe.
I will only say that it exists, and
I am grateful to have found
My place in its circle.

The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse

You’re not the man I thought you were.
You’re not the boy either.
I’m not the woman you thought I was.
I’m not the girl either.

We are somewhere in between,
Where our fears are as large as our dreams.
We are different novels
Sharing one chapter.

You fill me with anger and sadness.
You fill me with wonder and joy.
It’s hard for me to accept that these things
Are necessary for me to grow.

I’ve learned so much about you,
And so much more about myself.
I hope that in this give and take
You can appreciate what is left.

It’s strange to know how two paths meet,
And merge for a girl and a boy.
We tied a knot that marked us,
Before the thread of our lives divided.

I cannot reflect without emotion.
You do not reflect at all.
I wonder when you will notice
We were a reason, a season, not a lifetime.

My heart cries for you to move,
And not stand in a selective past.
I wish for you to feel the joy
Of a new vision and wisdom.

Yet, there you sink in the sand
On the foundation we carelessly formed.
I’m building on a stone of ambition,
With knowledge and hope at my aid.

Come to the light, and shed all the pain.
This was not your dream.
I could not nourish your soul.
We deserve the chance to be fulfilled.

Isn't it funny?

Isn’t it funny?

Isn’t it funny how we promised things
That never would come true?
Isn’t it funny how I love who I am
When I’m not with you?

Isn’t it funny how you play at solitaire
With the cards for match game?
Isn’t it funny how I stop and stare
Whenever I hear your name?

Isn’t it funny how you begged me to write
Just one poem so our love would live on?
Isn’t it funny how my muse was asleep,
And she’s awake now that you’re gone?

Road Trip

Road Trip

I’ve taken what you’ve given me,
And given in return.
I’ve shared my fears,
Let you dry my tears,
When all I wanted was to run.

I’ve confronted all your demons,
And held you close at heart.
We found out what we dreamed
Wasn’t quite what it seemed.
That was the time we grew apart.

Now I’m left with the memories,
While you still wonder why.
It is all so clear
That what we had in a year,
Was just a tiny piece of the pie.

I turn down a new road,
While you pass the “dead end” sign.
We’re not alone,
We’re just on our own.
You were never mine.

What You Leave Behind

What you leave behind

I find myself
Bathed in your warmth,
Tended by your lips.

I find myself
Excited by your smile,
Cradled in your hands.

I find myself
Lulled by our dreams,
Singing with your laughter.

I find myself
Exhausted with your passion,
Concerned for your need.

I find myself
Chasing your nightmares,
Holding you down.

I find myself
Afraid of answers,
Confronting your denials.

I find myself
Staring at the empty spaces,
Shedding tears for memories.

I find myself
On a new journey,
But I don’t find you.
