The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse

You’re not the man I thought you were.
You’re not the boy either.
I’m not the woman you thought I was.
I’m not the girl either.

We are somewhere in between,
Where our fears are as large as our dreams.
We are different novels
Sharing one chapter.

You fill me with anger and sadness.
You fill me with wonder and joy.
It’s hard for me to accept that these things
Are necessary for me to grow.

I’ve learned so much about you,
And so much more about myself.
I hope that in this give and take
You can appreciate what is left.

It’s strange to know how two paths meet,
And merge for a girl and a boy.
We tied a knot that marked us,
Before the thread of our lives divided.

I cannot reflect without emotion.
You do not reflect at all.
I wonder when you will notice
We were a reason, a season, not a lifetime.

My heart cries for you to move,
And not stand in a selective past.
I wish for you to feel the joy
Of a new vision and wisdom.

Yet, there you sink in the sand
On the foundation we carelessly formed.
I’m building on a stone of ambition,
With knowledge and hope at my aid.

Come to the light, and shed all the pain.
This was not your dream.
I could not nourish your soul.
We deserve the chance to be fulfilled.
