Gravitational Pull

Gravitational Pull

The crisp, cool air in the room would have set in a chill on my skin at any other time, but you were lying next to me.
Everything was so still and quiet that my voice seemed foreign as I read to you.
When the story ended, we laid in the silence.
Never was there a moment when I felt more at peace.
I wondered at your presence close to me and found myself curious to know what you were thinking.
Happy contentment washed over me like a blanket.
Soon, I found myself slipping into a restful sleep.
The world itself and time felt as if it had stopped in its tracks.
When I woke up, I reached out for you and found that you were no longer with me.
In an instant, my world was spinning once again.

Strength

Strength

See how the small boy treads courageously into the ocean.
He stands firm, letting the waves wash over him.
He does not falter.
The innocent adventurous wonder that comes with being a child gives him power.
It is before we learn of all the things that can bring us pain.
I wish I could face the crashing waves and welcome the shells they wash in;
Some jagged, some beautiful.
But, no. I bury my feet in the sand.
